and how does it help websites out. I have heard alot about it but i wont touch it till i have more of a clue as to what it is exactly.

It's a feed aggragator.
YOu stick all the feeds you want to track INTO it, and it supplies an output you can use elsewhere.
I used to use it to bring a bunch of news feeds togethe ron a single topic, then I'd use their single output feed to post the content (with some trickery) as plain HTML on my site's main page.
The feed URL long agao changes, so my feedbox is currently empty ont he website, but it was great to work with - the company is solid and stable, and a leader int he field, so THEY are reliable. They also allow lots of options for customizing the look & feel, adding in ads, etc.
