Services like Blast4Traffic claim that you can reach 70 million people each month through e-mail by using their service. Has anyone used their service before? Since they only charge you less than $40 for a lifetime membership to use their service every month, I feel that it's a total scam.
Does anyone have any opinion on this matter?
Does anyone know what are the best opt-in e-mail safelists?

Not to be too blunt, but it's crap. This will generate more complaints to you than visitors or sales, etc.
If you use this service, be ready for what comes your way. Namely, your domain may be blacklisted by ISPs, should enough of their members complain about spam.
Typically this kind of stuff, while billed at "opt-in", does not conform the the CAN-SPAM legislation and other, newer, more localized spam laws.
The best bet for e-mail advertising is to simply grow your own list the old fashioned way - have users sign up at your site. You will need to ensure they are double-opt-ins, or some e-mail companies will not allow you to send messages out through their systems. Be aware that it is YOUR responsibility to ensure the list of e-mail recipients you are sending to has double-opted in for your product. Someone telling you the list is 2x opted does not make it so - you must be sure, so ask for proof. Better yet, ask to sign up yourself, to see the process.
An easy way to manage the whole e-mail program from front to back, is to set up an account with someone like imninc.com - they offer full service capability from signup through unsubscribes. Naturally you must pay for the service.
My company has been using them for the past year - they are a good firm, reputable, and have yanked our chains a couple times. That said, a partnership such as this is vital to maintaining a proper e-mail marketing program.
E-mail marketing, when done right, is not a fast marketing solution - it's part of community building. Treat your users right, respect their wishes and send them valuable content, and e-mails are a fantastic way to increase revenues. A couple wrong steps, however, can land you in all kinds of troubling spots with users, your or their ISP or even, in extreme instances, the law.

Yes blast4traffic, and safemailer is a bunch of crap! I have been using it, and I have not gain any sells, or response. I have wasted $40 bucks for nothing. The best opt-in email database that I am currently using, and have brought many potential customers is this one [removed]
P.S. It is a database of people who are also trying to sell their products to you too...so it is safe, and spam free compliance. It is free to join, and if you upgrade to pro, it will only cost $19.99 a month. The list keeps growing, as other members/entrepreneurs are joining to sell their products online, directly to you via email! You can also choose to block their emails with this tool. Check it out, and you wont be sorry!

Hi g1smd. I think you may have misunderstood what the 70 + million actually means.
what they do is send 2.++ million emails daily.
2.something million x 30 = around 70 or so million.
The bulk mailers could very easily have a couple of million opt-in members. The problem is getting any of them to open your email for a look see.
I think that the way to cure the email problem is to make your email subject lines look like the must be opened.
That sounds pretty easy but a really good subject line is an art all by its self.
I'm running some tests with one of the email blaster programs to see if I can come up with compelling subject lines.
Maybe with a bit of luck I'll find the Holy Grail of email subject lines.

Hasn't occurred to you that these days, most people can spot spam a mile off.
It's generally unwise to choose to join their ranks.

Stuff that I have truly "opted in" to, I am gagging to open it whenever I receive it.
Stuff that I have been conned in to accepting, or opted in to without my say so, hits the trash can.

Exactly; if you opted in, you are expecting it, and you'll open it. Immediately.
If you didn't *really* opt in, it looks out of place.
As a marketing exercise, it seems weird to choose to associate yourself with 23 Canada pharmacies, a nice girl who wants to chat with your credit card, and 62 people who want to rearrange your bodily assets, all paid for with that $10,000,000 from Nigeria.
Once you associate your brand with cr*p, that's what it'll always be. Think long term ...
