I recently created a blog for my company on a free blog site. I have been adding to it however, I was wondering what are the best ways to market my blog. Where are some good submissions sits to increase the popularity of the blog?

Thanks!

sign up with places like
Technorati.com, bloglines.com, feedburner.com

And then, there are a ton of blog directories.

Do a search for blog directory +"Your Topic"

Those are a few things to do..

Ok. There are a lot of you out there that want their blog to be read by others but don’t know how to do it. I’ll explain to you just a few ways to get out there and get it done.
I’ve never really been much of a writer, but do know how to research things and definitely have a good idea about marketing.

About a week ago, I decided to do some research on my own about blogs and the internet. One thing that I’ve found out is that link popularity is probably one of the key things to get out there and get noticed. #1 Ask yourself who is into the same things you are. According to Lee Odden Posted by Lee Odden on Nov 6th in Online Marketing, Blogging ,
“There are over 57 million blogs out there, and about 70% are active”. It would be relatively easy for a blogger to find others with similar interests.

Last week I started a blog, and I found that it’s not real easy to get readers to your blog unless you network with a lot of blogs that are similar to yours. My first day, I think I might have had fifty people come to the blog. I thought that people would automatically come, but they didn’t. So, that is where I started doing all of my research.

Just go to any search engine, such as Google or yahoo to do your research and find others with the same interests. Once you do that, make sure to both subscribe to other blogs and link to them. Here is a basic rule when it comes to linking. Make sure to have a link on your blog referring to their blog first before trying to submit your blog to be on their link list. Don’t just try to get others to link to your blog without fully reading all about their blogs. Make sure that the blogs have similarity to your blog. One thing to avoid when finding other blogs to link to is link farms. A link farm is a place where tons of links are submitted, or traded just in hope that people will come to their blog. This is where search engine popularity comes in.

Your blog will be hard to find in a search engine when you first start out. It all takes time and patience; along with a lot of hard work. In order for people to find you in the search engines, you must have “key words” in the Meta tags of your site. If you don’t have a clue of what I’m talking about or have no idea about html programming, you might either do some research on how to put meta tags into your page, or just pay for someone to do it for you. If you are like me (on a shoestring budget), I’d suggest doing it yourself. There is a lot of good information on doing this stuff at Christopher Heng’s website www.thesitewizard.com/archive/metatags.shtml . Very useful information on Meta tags, keyword ranking, and more.

The last thing that I’d like to mention is the PR rating of your blog or website. PR rating is the (P)age ( R ) anking of your site/or blog for that matter. According to Dynamic Member, www.dynamicmember.us/Google_PageRank.htm, “PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Also, the importance of the page that is casting the vote determines how important the vote itself is.” Make sure to go to this site for valuable information on how to increase the value of your pages on your blog/or website. Once you have went out and networked with other bloggers, increased you rankings of your pages, you should have no problem with thousands of individuals flocking to your blog. This all takes time, patience, and a lot of hard work. If you are willing to put out the effort, you will get the results pretty fast.

My blog that I metioned earlier ((URL REMOVED)) has gotten about 11,000 hits just in the past week, so I guess that isn’t so bad. Everyone has to start somewhere. If there is anyone that would like other tips from me, you can email me or visit one of my blogs.
